Odome Roundabout, Kaminokuni Live Cam

This view in Kaminokuni, southwestern Hokkaido, looks across the Odome roundabout where National Route 228 meets local roads. A round fountain basin with a brick rim fills the foreground, and a ridge of forested mountains rises behind the low town buildings.

Opened on 11 October 2019, the roundabout was the first signal-free one in Hokkaido. It replaced a tangled crossing of the national highway, a prefectural road and a town street that had seen ten accidents in fifteen years. Traffic circles clockwise, and without signals the junction keeps working during power cuts.

Unlike the wider view from the same spot, this frame is zoomed in on the junction, showing the raised central island, yellow bollards, yield signs and the red-paved crossing on Route 228. Houses, shops and a large white building line the far side of the ring.
