Rice Terrace Café, Tegallalang Live Cam

The Tegallalang rice terraces fill this webcam view north of Ubud, in the interior of Bali, Indonesia. Palms rise out of the terraced slope, and the platforms and umbrellas of a café occupy the near side of the valley.

The terraces are watered by subak, the Balinese system of canals, weirs and water temples that has organised irrigation on the island since the eighth century and shares water by a fixed order between farms. The slope has since been fitted out with swings and zip lines for visitors.

The rice cycle changes the picture completely: flooded terraces reflecting the sky, then solid green, then stubble after the harvest. Coach parties arrive from mid-morning, so the valley is quietest at first light.
