White Stork Nest, Hedeper Live Cam

A broad white stork nest of woven sticks fills this view from Hedeper, a small village in the Wolfenbüttel district of Lower Saxony. The camera looks down onto the flat top of the nest, with a tilled field behind it and green meadow at the lower right.

Hedeper lies about 15 kilometres southeast of Wolfenbüttel, just west of the Großes Bruch lowland. Local volunteers put up the village’s first nest support in April 2007, a wooden pole topped with a cart wheel, and a pair of storks moved in that same year. Until 2017 it was the only breeding stork nest in the district.

The fixed view shows the whole nest at close range, from its flat top down through the thick layers of sticks. White storks usually arrive in February or March and raise their chicks by early summer, while from autumn onwards the nest stands empty.
