Weather and time
This camera looks down into a white stork nest on a mast at the edge of Erlln, a hamlet on the Freiberger Mulde near Colditz in Saxony. Beyond the woven rim of the nest, the river bends past a grassy bank, with meadows and fields on the far shore.
Erlln is part of the town of Colditz in the district of Leipzig and lies about 3 km north of Colditz Castle. A short way downstream, at Sermuth, the Freiberger Mulde joins the Zwickauer Mulde to form the Mulde. The nest was raised on a wooden mast with a steel base in March 2021, and the first stork landed on it in spring 2024.
White storks usually return from Africa in March, breed from April to July and leave in August or September, so the nest stays empty in winter. The camera sits above the nest and faces upstream, taking in the nest cup, the river and the floodplain meadows around it.
