Weser River, Bremen Live Cam

The Weser runs through the middle of Bremen, and the camera looks over the water at the Wilhelm Kaisen bridge. The Osterdeich embankment lies on the far side.

The river nearly cost the city its trade. It silted up so badly by the nineteenth century that seagoing ships could not reach Bremen at all, and a deepening scheme carried out from 1887 dropped the bed by three metres and brought them back.

The town hall and the stone Roland in the market square have been on the UNESCO list since 2004; the statue has stood there since 1404 as a claim of civic independence. The four Bremen town musicians on the corner beside it are a great deal younger and get more attention.
