Jardins de l'Empereur, Ajaccio Live Cam

This fixed camera looks over the Gulf of Ajaccio from a wooded hillside in the Jardins de l'Empereur district. Olive and eucalyptus trees frame a bend of road, with apartment blocks and rooftops stepping down to the water.

Ajaccio is the capital of Corsica and the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte, on the west coast of the island. The gulf in front of the camera is a wide bay, and its far shore shows a long pale beach below a ridge of blue mountains. A ship is moored near the port at the foot of the town in some frames.

The view never changes direction, so the differences come from the light. Mornings bring bright sun from the upper right, midday adds a soft haze over the mountains, and after dark the lights of the town and the harbour trace the curve of the shore.
