Bazacle Weir, Toulouse Live Cam

This view looks across the Garonne at the Bazacle weir in the centre of Toulouse, in south-western France. A domed building and long brick-fronted blocks line the far bank, and a multi-arch road bridge crosses the river at the right.

The Garonne rises in the Pyrenees and flows through Toulouse on its way to Bordeaux and the Atlantic. The Bazacle weir is one of the oldest river works in the city, long tied to mills and now to hydroelectric power. Water released from Pyrenean reservoirs supports the river's flow here in dry months.

The camera looks over the concrete edge of the weir in the foreground, so the whole width of the river is in view together with the skyline behind it. Stone shelves in the middle of the channel come into sight when the water is low, which makes changes in the river level easy to read between visits.
