Port de Baie-Comeau Live Cam

Ice drifts past the quay at Baie-Comeau, where the ferry from Matane crosses the St Lawrence to the north shore. A forklift, sheds and stacked pallets occupy the apron in the foreground.

The port runs through the winter, handling containers, general cargo and a rail ferry as well as the passenger crossing. The river is several kilometres wide at this point and the far bank stays visible as a low ridge.

The town was founded in 1936 around a paper mill built to supply newsprint to a Chicago newspaper. Inland lie the Manicouagan reservoir and the Daniel-Johnson dam, and the camera also catches whales in the estuary during the late summer.
