Bird's nest Kuklen, Plovdiv Live Cam

A stork's nest on a purpose-built platform above Kuklen, with the wooded foothills of the Rhodopes filling the horizon behind it. In this frame one adult bird stands on the rim at dusk.

Platforms like this are put up to move nests off live power poles, and the birds return to the same one year after year, adding to it each spring. Below the platform the roofs of the town run down the slope, and a mast rises through the middle of the picture.

The season is short: storks are here from spring to late summer, and once they leave the nest sits empty against the sky until March. Even then the camera is worth opening at sunset, when the ridge line behind goes pink and the silhouette of the nest is all that is left.
