Praia Ponta Negra Beach, Manaus Live Cam

Ponta Negra is the city beach of Manaus, on the black water of the Rio Negro about thirteen kilometres from the centre. The webcam looks along the promenade and the sand.

The sand is seasonal. The Negro rises and falls by something like ten metres over the year, and at high water in June the beach and part of the promenade are under the river; it comes back in the dry months at the end of the year.

The water is dark because it drains rotting leaf litter off sandy soils and carries almost no sediment. Twenty kilometres downstream it runs alongside the pale Solimões for several kilometres without mixing, the two differing in speed, temperature and density.
