Scoglio dell'Ulivo Live Cam

A single olive tree grows on top of Scoglio dell'Ulivo, a rock islet standing a few metres off the beach at Tonnara di Palmi in Calabria. The webcam looks along the sand to the rock and the headland behind it.

The tree took root during the twentieth century in a crack with almost no soil, and it has held. Local usage calls the beach Ulivarella after it, and the islet is close enough that swimmers reach it without a boat.

Tonnara is the coastal district of Palmi and is named for the tuna traps once set offshore. This is the Costa Viola, where the mountains drop straight to the water; on clear days Stromboli shows on the horizon to the northwest.
