WCDC Live, WI Cam

The oval at the World Championship Derby Complex in Eagle River, Wisconsin, is a half-mile ice track banked with walls of packed snow. Advertising boards line the inside of the wall, and the webcam looks down from the grandstand side.

The World Championship Snowmobile Derby has been run here every January since 1964, and the track was cut for that event specifically. Sleds carry the banking at speeds that make the short straights almost incidental.

Outside race week the surface is left flat and white, which is what the picture shows for most of the year. Eagle River sits in the lake country of northern Wisconsin, where the snow season is long enough to make a permanent ice oval worth maintaining.
