Weather and time

This camera watches a Union Pacific railroad crossing in Tornillo, a village in El Paso County, Texas, close to the Mexican border. A water tower, low houses and a gas station sign stand beyond the tracks, with utility poles and wires cutting across the sky.

The crossing has flashing signals and gates and sits at milepost 794.32 of the Union Pacific Valentine Subdivision. Tornillo lies in the Rio Grande valley southeast of El Paso. Union Pacific freights use the line, and Amtrak's Sunset Limited passes here as well.

The camera is a pan-tilt-zoom unit. Its usual view is wide, showing the crossing, the street and the town, and at other times it zooms toward a nearby road lined with brush and a 45 mph sign. A long freight of tank cars and boxcars can hide most of the town behind it.
