South Lodge, Colorado Live Cam

The base area at Purgatory sits in the San Juan Mountains north of Durango, in the south-west of Colorado, in the United States. The webcam looks up the slope from the lodge at the bottom.

The mountain runs from about 2,700 metres at the base to 3,300 at the top, which is high enough that the snow stays dry and light. The runs are laid out in a series of benches and pitches rather than one continuous fall line.

The name comes from a creek in the valley, itself named by Spanish explorers who called the river beyond it El Río de las Ánimas Perdidas, the river of lost souls. The road past the resort climbs over three passes on its way north to Silverton.
