This camera stands at street level on the Las Vegas Strip, at the corner by Park Avenue, and looks across the crossing. Crowds pass in front of it from late afternoon until the small hours.

The sign at the southern end of the boulevard, the one reading welcome to fabulous Las Vegas, was designed in 1959 by Betty Willis, who never copyrighted it. That is why it turns up on everything: she considered it a gift to the city.

The resorts along this stretch are set back from the road behind forecourts, so the walk between two of them takes far longer than it looks on a map. The block in view is one of the few where the frontage comes right up to the pavement.
