Hale Boggs Bridge, LA Live Cam

The Hale Boggs Bridge carries Interstate 310 over the Mississippi between Luling and Destrehan, west of New Orleans. The webcam looks at it from a lawn on the Luling side.

A ferry crossed here until 1983. In October 1976 one of them was run down by a tanker in fog with the loss of seventy-eight lives, and the bridge that replaced it was among the first large cable-stayed spans built in the United States.

Ocean-going ships reach this stretch of river more than two hundred kilometres from the sea, which is why the deck is held so high above the water. The plants along both banks belong to the chemical corridor that runs up to Baton Rouge.
