Fort Zachary Taylor Beach, Florida Live Cam

Fort Zachary Taylor stands at the south-western corner of Key West, with a beach and a state park around it. The webcam turns between the sand, the water and the ships.

The fort was begun in 1845 and was still unfinished when the war came. Union troops held it through the whole of the civil war, which kept Key West and the blockade of the Gulf in northern hands while the rest of Florida seceded.

Its lower gunrooms were filled in and forgotten until a volunteer dug them out in the 1960s and found the largest collection of civil war cannon anywhere. The beach outside is coral rubble rather than sand and shelves into clear water.
