Urdaibai Bird Center Live Cam

The Urdaibai Bird Center looks out over flooded meadows beside the Oka estuary at Gautegiz Arteaga, in the Basque Country of Spain. Spoonbills nest on the platform directly in front of the camera, with ducks and waders below them.

The marshes are a refuelling stop on the East Atlantic flyway, and the species list turns over with the calendar rather than staying fixed. Urdaibai has been a UNESCO biosphere reserve since 1984, covering the whole catchment of the river.

The centre occupies a converted farmhouse fitted out as a permanent hide, with glass instead of windows on the marsh side. The picture runs from half past seven in the morning until ten at night, local time.
