Moratalaz District, Madrid Live Cam

Moratalaz is a district of blocks and parks on the eastern side of Madrid, just outside the M-30 ring road. The webcam looks over the rooftops towards the centre of the city.

It was built in one go. Through the 1960s the city moved tens of thousands of people out of shanty settlements into planned estates on its edge, and this was among the largest of them; about a hundred thousand people live here now.

The blocks were laid out with space between them, which is why the district has more park per resident than most of Madrid. The pines in the picture are part of that, planted when the estates went up.
