Pia de Sarrià, Barcelona Live Cam

Barcelona spreads out below the camera on the roof of the Escola Pia in Sarrià, sloping away towards the sea. Two rectangles are blacked out of the picture where it would otherwise look into windows.

Sarrià was a town in its own right until 1921 and the last of the villages around Barcelona to be annexed, a merger it fought in the courts and lost. Its old high street still runs through the district as an ordinary shopping street.

The school is one of about twenty run by the Piarists in Catalonia and has stood on this site since the nineteenth century. On a clear day the view carries to Montjuïc and the harbour; most days the haze over the plain closes it off well before that.
