Afrikaanderplein Rotterdam Live Cam

Afrikaanderplein is a square of grass and plane trees in the Feijenoord district on the south bank at Rotterdam. The webcam looks over it and the streets around.

A market has been held here since 1964 and is now among the largest in the country, trading on Wednesdays and Saturdays with a few hundred stalls. What is sold on it follows who lives in the streets behind, and that has changed several times over.

The quarter was built for dock workers around 1900 and named, like its square, after the Boer republics that Dutch opinion supported at the time. The docks it served have moved west and the harbours nearby have been filled in or turned into housing.
