Anniversaire Omotesando Live Cam

Omotesandō runs downhill from the entrance to the Meiji shrine through the Aoyama district of central Tokyo. The webcam looks along the avenue from a building on the corner.

The street was laid out in 1920 as the formal approach to the shrine and planted with zelkova trees. Most of them burned in the air raids of 1945 and were replanted afterwards; they are lit through December, which draws crowds that have to be managed.

The frontages are a run of buildings by well-known architects, put up by fashion houses from the late 1990s onwards. The side lanes behind them are still narrow residential streets.
