Weather and time
The Morosini fountain stands below this webcam in Eleftheriou Venizelou Square, in Heraklion on the island of Crete. Four stone lions support the upper basin in the middle of the square, with café tables filling the space around it.
The fountain was built in 1628 by the Venetian governor to bring water into the city from a spring fifteen kilometres away, and the lions are older still, reused from an earlier work. Heraklion was Venetian for four centuries, and this square was the centre of it.
The square is a meeting point rather than a monument: the tables are full from morning to late evening. The archaeological museum and the Knossos road are a short walk from here.
