Obersee Lake, Friedrichshafen Live Cam

The marina at Friedrichshafen stands in front of the webcam, with the roofs of the town on one side and the open Obersee on the other. The feed comes from the Graf-Zeppelin-Haus on the promenade.

Airships were built here. The first Zeppelin lifted off the lake itself on 2 July 1900 from a floating hangar moored in the bay, and the works that grew out of it made the town a target in the war that flattened its centre.

Obersee is the main basin of Lake Constance, 63 kilometres long and 251 metres deep. The level climbs through spring as Alpine snow melts into the Rhine and falls back by autumn, a swing of roughly two metres against the quay walls.
