The valley at Balderschwang lies below this webcam, in the Allgäu Alps of southern Bavaria in Germany. Snow-covered pasture and a road fill the middle of the frame, with wooded ridges and the ski slopes on the far side.

Balderschwang is the highest municipality in Bavaria and one of the smallest, in a valley that is closed off by a pass and gets more snow than almost anywhere else in the region. It sits inside the Nagelfluhkette nature park.

The valley holds snow well into spring because it faces north and gets little sun. In summer the same slopes are hay meadows and walking routes.
