Place de la Liberté, Brest Live Cam

Place de la Liberté and the city of Brest lie below this webcam, at the western tip of Brittany in France. Formal gardens fill the square below the lens, and the roofs run down to the roadstead and the open water beyond.

Brest was flattened in 1944 and rebuilt through the 1950s in plain concrete on a new plan, which is why almost nothing in this frame is older than that. The square is the centre of the rebuilt town, in front of the town hall.

The roadstead behind is one of the largest natural harbours in Europe and a French naval base. Atlantic weather crosses fast here, and the same view can go from clear to rain within the hour.
