Weather and time
This camera looks from an upper-level porch down Prince Street in downtown Cruz Bay, past the shops and bars to the green hillside beyond. The porch rail and its tall stools fill the right edge, while the street bends below toward a two-storey pavilion lettered with burgers, booze and beer.
Prince Street appears on maps as Prinsdens Gade, a name left from the Danish era, before the islands passed to the United States in 1917. It lies a block or two from the ferry terminal in Cruz Bay, the main town of Saint John. Red-roofed houses climb the slope behind the buildings.
The camera is fixed, so the corner where the road turns, the white two-storey building and the brick-paved entry below the porch stay in the same place in every frame. The raised position shows the whole junction and passing cars, looking inland, not at the beach.
