Durango, CO Live Cam

Durango lies in the south-western corner of Colorado, on the Animas River below the San Juan range of the Rockies. The camera turns across the town, the railyard and the ridges beyond.

The yard belongs to a narrow-gauge railway that has run to Silverton since 1882, three feet between the rails, built to bring silver ore down out of the mountains. It still burns coal, and a cinder from one of its engines started a fire that burned two hundred square kilometres in 2018.

The main avenue below is a historic district of hotels from the 1880s and 1890s. Lake Nighthorse west of the town is new, filled in 2011 as part of a settlement of water rights with the Ute tribes.
