Pozo Izquierdo Beach, Gran Canaria Live Cam

Wind turbines line the shore above the breaking surf at Pozo Izquierdo, on the south east coast of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands. Stone terraces step down to a rocky beach below the camera.

The trade winds accelerate along this stretch of coast and blow hard for most of the summer, which is why the turbines stand here and why the sea is almost never flat. Salt spray reaches the promenade on the worst days.

The Canary Islands Technological Institute runs a test site next to the village, working on desalination and wind power in exactly these conditions. Pozo Izquierdo belongs to the municipality of Santa Lucía de Tirajana, in the province of Las Palmas.
