Golden Horn Bay fills the middle distance in this rooftop view over central Vladivostok, with cathedral domes standing above the green roofs. Grey naval hulls lie along the far quays.

The bay is the reason the city exists: a deep, sheltered inlet that has held the main base of the Russian Pacific Fleet since the nineteenth century. The Golden Bridge crosses it on two pylons a little to the left of the frame.

Vladivostok is the eastern terminus of the Trans-Siberian Railway, closer to Seoul and Tokyo than to most Russian cities. The webcam looks out from a building on Okeansky Prospekt, over the streets that drop from the ridge to the water.
