Rondeel Chickens, Gelderland Live Cam

Hens work over the gravel of a Rondeel poultry barn near Barneveld, in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The camera looks along one segment of the building from above.

The barn is round. Living quarters radiate from a central core out to a covered wooded run around the rim, a layout worked out by researchers at Wageningen and built for the first time in 2010 to raise the welfare standard rather than the yield.

Barneveld is the centre of the Dutch poultry trade and gave its name to the Barnevelder, a brown-egg breed fixed here in the nineteenth century. The town keeps a poultry museum and still holds an egg market.
