Weather and time
This camera looks east across a central crossroads of Shihoro, a farming town on the Tokachi Plain in eastern Hokkaido. Beyond the crosswalks, a small wooden clock tower stands in front of the waiting room of the town's bus stop.
Shihoro lies in Katō District of Tokachi Subprefecture, about 28 km north of Obihiro. Settlers from Gifu Prefecture arrived in 1898, and farming is still the main industry, with a cooperative starch factory and a potato processing plant. Since the railway closed in 1987, buses from this stop to Obihiro and Kamishihoro have served as the town's public transport.
The view is fixed: the street runs east past low shops and houses on the left, and the brick-paved bus plaza with a red postbox fills the centre. Pedestrians use the striped crossings just below the camera, and the trees around the plaza mark the seasons.
