Castelluccio di Norcia, Italy Live Cam

Castelluccio di Norcia stands on an isolated hill across the Piano Grande from this webcam, in Umbria, central Italy. Stone houses stand along the ridge at about 1,450 metres, with the snow-covered bulk of Monte Vettore behind them.

The plain below is a closed karst basin in the Sibillini mountains, farmed for the lentils the village is known for. The earthquake of October 2016 destroyed most of Castelluccio, and what stands in the frame is a mixture of ruins, shoring and rebuilding that has gone on ever since.

Between late May and mid-July the fields on the plain flower in bands of red, yellow and blue, and the roads up here fill with cars. In winter the basin holds snow and the village is often the only dark shape in a white frame.
