Weather and time
This camera on Poolbeg Lighthouse looks west along the shipping channel into the port of Dublin and the mouth of the River Liffey. The striped Poolbeg stacks rise on the left, port cranes line the far shore and a red buoy marks the fairway.
The lighthouse stands at the outer end of the Great South Wall, which runs more than four kilometres into Dublin Bay. A light has marked this spot since 1767, and the red tower took its present form in 1820. Together with the Bull Wall to the north, the wall shelters the river mouth for the ships of Ireland's busiest port.
From the tip of the wall the camera catches vessels as they leave the river channel for the open bay, with ferries and cargo ships crossing the middle of the frame. A departures panel and tide times are shown beside the picture.
