Macul & La Florida, Chile Live Cam

Avenida Vicuña Mackenna runs south out of Santiago with the elevated metro line above it, straight through the middle of the webcam picture. The communes of Macul and La Florida spread out on either side.

The city sits in a basin with the Andes on one side and the coastal range on the other, and in winter the air stops moving: the mountains at the back of the view disappear for weeks behind trapped smog.

Line 5 was carried along this avenue on a viaduct rather than put underground, which is why the trains are in plain sight. The Estadio Monumental, home of Colo-Colo and the largest club ground in Chile, stands a short way east.
