Plaza Baquedano, Santiago Live Cam

Plaza Baquedano, the roundabout at the centre of Santiago, lies below this webcam in the capital of Chile. Traffic circles the plinth in the middle of the frame, with the Mapocho river on the left and the entrance to the metro station on the right.

Everyone in the city calls this Plaza Italia, and since the protests of October 2019 many call it Plaza Dignidad. It is the point where the main avenue crosses the river and the traditional dividing line between the wealthier east of the city and everything west of it.

Marches, celebrations after football matches and demonstrations all converge here, so the same frame can show ordinary traffic or a crowd filling the whole junction. The equestrian statue that stood on the plinth was removed for restoration.
