Weather and time
This rooftop view in Red Deer, Alberta, looks across a parking lot to the Queen Elizabeth II Highway between Calgary and Edmonton. Traffic moves along the northbound lanes and a slip road beyond the lot, with open fields and trees on the horizon.
Red Deer lies roughly halfway between Alberta's two largest cities, and Highway 2 skirts its western edge. The Calgary–Edmonton stretch was named after Queen Elizabeth II in May 2005, during her visit for Alberta's centennial. The building at 4200 Highway 2 houses the city's visitor centre and the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, with trails to Heritage Ranch behind it.
The camera stays fixed facing south-west. On the right, the lanes run off to the north-west past the edge of the building's roof. On the left, the highway bends south beside a second parking area, and spruce trees grow just below the camera.
