Rio Live, Copacabana Cam

Avenida Princesa Isabel runs down towards the seafront at Copacabana, in the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The camera looks along the traffic towards the end of the road and the beach.

The pavement at the bottom is the famous one. The black and white wave pattern along Avenida Atlântica was laid to a design by Roberto Burle Marx in 1970, reworking an older Portuguese mosaic that ran the other way across the promenade.

The beach is four kilometres long and the strip behind it is one of the most densely populated places in the country. New Year fireworks here draw crowds of a size measured in millions.
