Airlie Beach, Queensland Live Cam

Airlie Beach looks out over the Coral Sea towards the Whitsunday Islands, in north Queensland in Australia. The camera covers the bay, the town and the marina.

Nobody swims off the beach here for half the year. Box jellyfish and irukandji are in the water from about October to May, so the town built a swimming lagoon on the foreshore in 2001 and everyone uses that instead.

The islands offshore are the tops of a drowned coastal range, seventy-four of them, and the Great Barrier Reef proper lies another sixty kilometres out. Most of the boats in the picture work one or the other.
