Wolsztyn Town Live Cam

The baroque parish church stands at the centre of Wolsztyn, a town of thirteen thousand people in western Poland. The webcam looks down on the roofs and the streets around it.

Robert Koch was the district doctor here for eight years from 1872, when the place was Wollstein in Prussia. He worked on anthrax in a room behind his surgery, showed that the bacillus formed spores which survived in soil, and published in 1876; the house is a museum.

That work made the germ theory of disease testable, and Koch went on to identify the organisms behind tuberculosis and cholera. The town sits between two lakes and is otherwise known for the steam locomotives kept in working order at its depot.
