The roundabout where Tamka meets Kopernika lies just below the Vistula escarpment in the middle of Warsaw. The webcam looks over the traffic and the trees on the corner.

Tamka runs down the slope towards the river, and halfway along it stands the palace that holds the Chopin museum. He was born fifty kilometres west of here and left the country at twenty, never to return.

Almost everything around this junction is post-war. The city was systematically destroyed after the uprising of 1944, and the old town was rebuilt from drawings and paintings, among them a set of eighteenth-century views by Bernardo Bellotto.
