Pechinsko Passage at 1060 m.a., Smolyan Live Cam

The Pechinsko pass in the eastern Rhodopes at 1,180 metres, looking out over grazed meadow to ridge after ridge. The camera carries its altitude in the corner of the frame.

The dirt track crossing the foreground is the old route over the pass, and the scattered white buildings on the far slopes are the villages of the Zlatograd area — this is the Bulgarian side of a border region where the mountains flatten into long wooded ridges rather than peaks.

The grass burns off to straw by August and greens again with the autumn rain. In winter the pass is among the first roads in the area to close.
