Valais, Switzerland

The canton of Valais (Kanton Wallis) is in the south part of Switzerland bordering the cantons of Bern and Vaud (north), Ticino and Uri (east), Italy (south) and France (west). It is set between the Pennine Alps and the Bernese Alps with the river Rhône cutting through the valley. To the east of Valais (Upper Valais) is the Rhône Glacier, a major tourist attraction, and to the west (Lower Valais) is the Lake Geneva with countless recreational opportunities.
