Live Cams in Toba

Toba, Japan

Toba is a city of about 16,000 people on the northeastern tip of the Shima Peninsula in Mie Prefecture, where Ise Bay meets the Pacific. Its whole territory lies within Ise-Shima National Park and includes four inhabited islands, among them Toshijima and Kamishima. In 1893 Mikimoto Kokichi first succeeded in culturing pearls on what is now Mikimoto Pearl Island in Toba Bay. Toba has more ama, women who dive for abalone and other seafood, than any other city in Japan, and Kamishima inspired the island in Yukio Mishima's novel The Sound of Waves.
