Buttes of Monument Valley stand along the horizon beyond the road and the lodge buildings at Oljato, in the southern corner of Utah. Red sandstone slopes fall away directly below the camera.

Goulding began as a trading post in the 1920s. Harry Goulding took photographs of the valley to Hollywood during the Depression, and John Ford filmed Stagecoach here in 1939, followed by half a dozen more westerns.

The valley itself is a Navajo tribal park, run by the Navajo Nation, and the seventeen-mile Valley Drive loops through it past the Mittens and Merrick Butte. Weather crosses this plateau quickly, and the live stream can go from clear sun to blowing dust within an hour.
