Siesta Motel Cactus, Durango Live Cam

The neon cactus sign of a roadside motel on Main Avenue stands in front of this webcam in Durango, southwest Colorado. The lettered board under the cactus carries the motel's slogan, and the road runs north towards the mountains.

Durango is the southern terminus of the narrow-gauge railway to Silverton, which has run steam trains up the Animas canyon since 1882 and is the reason most visitors come. The Animas river runs through the town with a trail along it, and a small ski hill sits within the town limits.

The sign itself is the point of this frame: a piece of mid-century roadside neon still in use. In autumn the aspens on the slopes behind turn yellow.
