Weather and time
Lovatnet fills the floor of Lodalen, a long green lake reaching inland from the village of Loen in Vestland county, Norway. The webcam stands at the top station of the Loen Skylift on Hoven, 1,011 metres above the fjord.
The colour comes from rock flour ground out by the glaciers at the head of the valley. Twice in the last century the face of Ramnefjellet dropped into that water, and the waves that followed wiped out the farms along the shore, in 1905 and again in 1936, with 135 dead between them.
The cable car opened in 2017 and climbs the face in about five minutes; the walking routes come up the back of the hill in two to three hours. Loen itself sits between the innermost arm of the Nordfjord and the lake, and the road up Lodalen ends under the glacier.
