Deerfoot Trail is the motorway running the whole length of Calgary from south to north, in Alberta in Canada. The camera looks over it from a car dealership beside the carriageway.

The road is named after a runner. Api-kai-ees, called Deerfoot, was a Siksika athlete who beat all comers over long distances around Calgary in the 1880s and drew large betting crowds; his later life went badly and he died in his thirties.

The route carries the national highway through the city and takes something over a hundred thousand vehicles a day at its busiest points. The prairie visible beyond it starts almost immediately at the eastern edge of town.
