Upper Geyser Basin, Yellowstone Live Cam

The Upper Geyser Basin around Old Faithful lies in front of this webcam, in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Steam rises from vents across the snow-covered flat, and the lodge buildings stand at the edge of the basin.

This basin holds roughly a quarter of all the geysers on earth, packed into a few square kilometres, and Old Faithful erupts from it at intervals of about an hour and a half. Yellowstone was made the first national park in the world in 1872, largely because of this ground.

In winter the roads in are closed to cars and visitors arrive by snowcoach, so the boardwalks in view stay nearly empty. Cold air makes the steam far more visible than it is in summer.
