Alameda Principal, Málaga Live Cam

The Alameda Principal is the wide avenue separating the old centre of Málaga from the port, and the webcam looks along it. Calle Larios, the pedestrian street, opens off it to the north.

The avenue was laid out at the end of the eighteenth century on ground taken from the sea; the beach came up to this line before the harbour was pushed out. The enormous ficus trees shading it were planted a century later.

Calle Larios was cut through the old town as a straight commercial street and opened in 1891, and it is one of the more expensive addresses in Spain by the square metre. At Christmas the lights strung along it draw crowds that spill back onto the avenue.
